Suzanne Jamieson Selmo releases ‘Shine’

By Chelsea Lewis

Suzanne Jamieson Selmo has released her latest musical effort Shine: Lullabies for Everyone. For Selmo, this album was created out of love and a passion for music. When Selmo became a mother to her daughter Colette, who is featured on the cover art for this album, she realized that lullabies had become outdated and needed a musical makeover.

This is a traditional lullaby album with a few modern updates, but overall, this is the type of music that is designed to make the audience fall asleep. It is the soothing and calming tone in Selmo’s voice that helps to make this a stand out album. She really takes the time to develop every song and add in a personal touch all while making these lullabies feel new and modern once again.

Musically, this is a strong album because the instrumentals help to frame Selmo’s voice in a way that really creates a calming atmosphere and allows the listener to really focus on her vocal range and the words in the song. Each song has a dream-like feel to it and they all seem to flow naturally into the next. This album is perfect for helping children who are trying to rest and fall asleep because it feels like a modern day musical bedtime story.

This isn’t going to be an album that tops the charts but it does feel like it was created out of love and for families that are spending quality time together. It also shows off the fact that Selmo is very talented musically and is highlighting her talents in a unique way.

This album is worth listening to once to hear how modernized a lullaby can be, but odds are music fans will find themselves falling asleep to this record which for Selmo means job well done.

Stand out tracks on the album include, “I’ll Miss You Till the Morning,” “What A Wonderful World” and “Smile.”
